Weekly Wrap-Up: Facebook Security Updates

-Weekly Wrap-Up: Facebook Security Updates-

Serendipit Consulting wraps up the week with a look at the new Facebook security updates and trends.

Facebook made it to the 9th spot on Twitter‘s trending list this week, which is a result of the viral security post that many Facebook users were copying and pasting on their timeline for their own safety. The post reads as follows:

“In response to the new Facebook guidelines I hereby declare that my copyright is attached to all of my personal details, illustrations, comics, paintings, professional photos and videos, etc. (as a result of the Berner Convention). For commercial use of the above my written consent is needed at all times!”

While this post may seem effective, based off of the viral response from the post,  Ad Age points out, “That paragraph won’t override the data-sharing terms of use that each user agrees to when joining the site, but it likely quells the concerns of those conspiracy-minded users who fall for it, while giving the rest of the internet something else to poke fun at.”

At the end of the day, Facebook is second to only Google, in the terms of views. While Facebook may be ranked second currently, it continues to increase in popularity daily. That is an eye opening statistic, so here is a word from the wise: Don’t post anything you wouldn’t want a stranger to see. While privacy settings do exist, Facebook is a data-sharing site and there are ways around viewing a profile even if it is set to private.
