Happy Sunday, folks! I’m here to bring you a wrap-up of important things that happened last week! I say “important” loosely, because there is a Jersey Shore story thrown in here…
To start off the wrap-up, it looks like Apple will successfully rule the world someday. I am talking about the iPad’s latest victim, HP’s Touchpad. On Thursday, Hewlett-Packard announced that it will be discontinuing the operations for WebOS operations—which includes the TouchPad. This comes ONLY six weeks after the TouchPad went on sale. When your competitor is the ultra-sleek and ultra-cool iPad, who can blame them for throwing in the towel?
On the shore—Jersey Shore cast members were offered money from retailer, Abercrombie and Fitch, to STOP wearing their clothes on the MTV show. Media outlets, from E! News to the Wall Street Journal, were talking about the offer. Was it just a publicity stunt from Abercrombie’s side? Probably, but it most likely didn’t give the retailer the response they wanted because their stock fell significantly the next day and started a Twitter backlash from Shore fans against the company. Jersey Shore was the second most tweeted about subject on Twitter this past week.
More exciting announcements from Apple—the iPhone 5 will be released sometime in early October according to an AT&T executive. So if you were planning on getting the phone soon, best to wait until October. The iPad 3 will be releasing in early 2012, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Check back later in the week for a run down of the most talked about, tweeted about and shared new on the web.
